Honesty and integrity go hand in hand.ย It’s hard getting on track when you stumble out of the gate..ย It’s only January and we’ve already dug up and replaced our well pump, dealt with food poisoning, and now I’ve had my fill of willfully disobedient children.ย I did exactly what I’m not supposed to do as a parent, I blew up.ย Thankfully, it’s only January and there is still time to change 2021 for the better!
Willful disobedience is simply a lack of trust.ย We’ve all done it or continue to do so.ย When we were children, we thought we knew more than our parents, wanted our freedom, simply did it to aggravate our parents for some wrong we think they did to us.ย As adults we continue to do so because we disagree with some authority, want our freedom or harbor some youthful will against those whom we deemed to have wronged us.
Is willful disobedience necessarily a bad thing?ย No, especially as it comes to freedom.ย For all those who complain about God being a puppet master, those whom know Him know also of his freewill offering.ย As parents, we teach our children that with freedom comes responsibility and when they show us they can be responsible, we grant them more freedom.
Atย the same time, yes, willful disobedience can be a wrong thing, when we don’t realize what we want is putting ourselves or others in harm’s way.
As you can tell, there is no point to today’s post.ย There is only the weekend-long ponderings of a parent as he reflects back on his own life and seeks answers for his children to help them become a better person than he is.
Is that something we all want?ย Orย is that just me?
