Good morning!
Are you running a “treatment plan” or a “health plan” for living your life?
“treatment Plans” typically attempt to solve one temporary problem.ย In so doing they often lead to a host of other issues.ย We replace a part in our car but it leads to other parts to break down.ย We engage a new diet to fix our “cholesterol” only to suppress our immune system.ย ย We tell ourselves its for the greater good.ย But is it?ย Doesn’t the “greater good” usually solve multiple challenges?
I have a family member attempting to solve issues of weight, lowered immune function, gall bladder function.ย They keep trying different diets and adamantly refuse to exercise.ย There is always an excuse.ย And yes, change will hurt.ย And yes, it will take time, longer than you want it to (because we all WANT it to happen now).ย But there are no values associated with the plan.ย Just “I want to lose weight” or “My doctor told me to…”.
In Chiropractic we talk about the “health plan” ofย ย “one cause, one cure.”ย The cause and the cure are both the same, listening to your innate intelligence. Its a matter of, do you have faith that focusing on the highest order will solve all your issues.ย I heard it best on a podcast, Wake Up Humans recently.ย The guest said (and i’ll paraphrase), “our values determine our beliefs which determine our actions.ย When our actions are incongruent with our values, we create our problems.”ย When all of our actions are in alignment with our values we create “health.”
Want a better marriage?ย Sit down with your spouse and create a list of values in priority order.ย Want a better athletic career, Sit down and write out your why’s (ie: your values) to keep yourself motivated when teh workouts are tough.ย Want to lose weight?ย Look at your life’s values and find out how losing the weight WILL serve your highest order.ย Thย nact in accordance with that value system.ย Regardless of the situation.
Yesterday after breakfast our family sat down and went around the table, I asked them who knows their top three values in life?ย My oldest son gave a direct response, “God, family, school.”ย He’s been clasking off on completing his list of colleges to finalize.ย Yesterday afternoon he dove head long into the process because he saw how it will best serve his future family and God.ย He took out his “what makes a college right for me” list.ย And the excitement that came from investigating the school he thought was at the bottom of his list, boosted it to the top.ย Now we continue the process.
Far too often in the office I witness people attempting to fit a “treatment plan” into a values based “health plan.”ย Itย doesn’t work and they wonder why.ย Because the focus is off and they don’t realize it. Refocus yourself in accordance with your values and take actions to achieve what want.
