Happy Halloween!
Today is a great day if you are a child seeking a sugar rush or into horror, gore, or death. Like many holidays it has been confiscated by the media, corporations, and Hollywood to become commercialized into something it isn’t. The traditional name for Halloween is “All Hallows Eve” and includes pagan as well as Christian practices.
For centuries man has had celebrations surrounding their dead. In Catholic and Christian circles, All Hallows Eve was a night of vigil and remembrance for those who died during the past year. In Pagan Briton, the observance of Samhain was a similar tradition as the souls trapped in animals for the past year are released. Even the idea of “Trick or Treat” comes from faithful observance. Beggars would knock on doors and ask for “soul cakes”, a cake or bread in exchange for prayers for the family’s deceased. Dressing up as witches and black cats served as reminders to heed God and his commandments.
Chiropractic is more like “All Saints Day”, November 1. It is a feast and celebration of life, especially life eternal. We recognize that life flows through the nerve system. It is the purpose of the Chiropractor to maintain the health of the Central Nerve System so that life flows freely.
Freedom is also about the fun times. So have fun tonight, eat your candy, but not too much. While you are at it give thanks in remembrance of God and that you are blessed with a flowing nerve system, maintained by a Chiropractic adjustment.
