In my opinion, service to our fellow human beings ranks high on the list of how to life life.ย I share this with you all now to illustrate how the simplest acts can mean the most to others and encourage you to live in the moment and be that blessing to someone else.
Dear Chief Arciero and Captain Schiffer,
I am writing you today to express my gratitude and appreciation to Officer Matt Catani of the Canton Police Department.
On the afternoon of Saturday, July 17, 2021 around 12:45PM I drove through the intersection of Routes 44 and 202, near Ocean State Job lot. I heard a loud pop like a transformer blowing up and felt a pull in my steering wheel. I realized I popped a tire and as I saw the tire gauge flash onto my vehicleโs dashboard display, I was able to pull into the Canton Police Department parking lot to get off the road.
After a quick inspection of the tire, I began pulling out my spare tire, lug nut wrench, and jack. At this time, Officer Catani walked out of the air conditioned department on an 85 degree and humid day to offer his assistance. With some polite and joking banter, officer Catani shared how he has changed more than his fair share of tires while off-roading in his spare time and had my tire changed for me faster than popular services known for handling these driving related issues.
It is often said that the simple things in life bring the most joy. As I was heading out to visit my 97 year old grandmother and wearing nothing but relaxed attire, officer Cataniโs service to me at the time is greatly appreciated. I was able to not enter that visit smelling like I just walked off an athletic field. ๐ Though Iโm sure officer Cataniโs family paid that price later. ๐
My father was an MP in the Air Force, spent 20 years as an officer in West Hartford, and 15 years as a dispatcher in Myrtle Beach. He always instilled in my brother and I the traditional police values of protecting and serving. It is wonderful to see these values carried on at the Canton Police Department and by officers like Matt Catani.
It is with sincere appreciation that I write this letter of commendation for Officer Matt Catani.
With love and appreciation,
Dr. Brian Nardi, DC
