People often come to Chiropractic for pain relief.ย Many items can offer relief; pills, lotions, contraptions, ice, heat, a walk, meditation, just to name a few.ย Both relief and healing are helpful.ย Healing is different.
We have a male in his 50’s under our care.ย He was having trouble bending over to pick things up.ย When he did, it would cause excruciating pain in his lower back.ย He has been to Chiropractors often throughout his life.ย He is tired of the flare-ups and he heard that we are different.ย After evaluating his exam, x-rays and nerve test, I determined he is subluxated and required care to unwind his nerve system.
He came in stating he “knows” what Chiropractic was based on his prior experiences.ย He was used to hour-long sessions with multiple modalities and stretching after his ~manipulation~.ย After his first ADJUSTMENT, he knew something was different about our office, what he thought Chiropractic was, and how his body responded.ย The episode he came in with went away after a few days, and he was happy.ย He also wants to heal, so he continues his care.
About six weeks into his care, he had what he called a “flare-up.”ย This is a term used when the focus is on relief.ย We told him, “Congratulations, you are retracing.”ย Retracing is a vital step in healing, where the patient relives the initial issue, but it lasts less time to relieve.ย Retracing happens as many times as is needed for the patient to understand the difference between a “flare-up”, and retracing.ย Hopefully, it happens only once.ย On average, it’s two, maybe three times.ย But it can occur over and over while the patient learns to accept the lesson.ย How long it takes, is up to the patient.
This individual understood the lesson the first time, and changed his mindset to a healing, positive, thankful, gracious one.ย He praises each day and hasn’t had an issue in months.ย Sure, he may have another one down the road.ย But our mindset determines if we are in constant need of relief, or we heal.ย When we have a healing mindset, the issues happen less, and require less time and effort to overcome.
Don’t take my word for it.ย Apply the lesson to your own life and see what happens for yourself.ย We’re here to help you learn the lessons in a loving, encouraging, and truthful manner.
