I’ve always been willing to share the happenings in my life section of our blog.ย Opening up and being real is never easy.ย If it helps others, I need to overcome my own fears and do it.ย So here goes….
Last Thursday I woke at 2 am in a pool of sweat, intense left chest pain, and pain into my left arm.ย After waking Suzy, and speaking directly with my primary care doctor, we decided I needed to go to the ER in case of a heart attack.ย Thankfully, everything checked out normal.ย Normal EKG, normal blood work, nothing to indicate a heart attack had happened.ย While at the ER, I was anxious and concerned.ย But my process prevailed.ย I spent time writing out affirmations on my phone, praying and giving thanks to God for all that has been provided me.ย I felt a sense of overwhelming peace through this process.
Once everything was checked out and I spoke again with my primary care doctor, we were baffled as to what had happened.ย The next steps are to take a stress test and other pulmonary blood work to see where it leads us.ย As this was an emergency situation at the moment, I trusted the medical process and the doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital were exceptional.ย And I am certain the cardiologist I am scheduled with will be also.
That’s not the end of the story.ย I don’t typically utilize medicine, I prefer more natural means.ย Sometime on Friday or Saturday I spoke with my naturopath and she asked different questions.ย Knowing my history, she asked if I had encountered any tick bites lately.ย Right after my son came home from college for winter break, he and I went disc golfing and I woke the next morning with a tick embedded near my belly button.ย I had completely forgotten about this until that moment.ย Then she asked if I had an other “weird” symptoms.ย And yes, I had experienced “floaters” in my right eye.ย Turns out that spirochetes, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease will do that.ย Long story short, I have a Lyme infection.ย After beginning my normal Lyme protocol, I woke the next morning completely different.ย It was a night and day change.ย Even now, Monday morning as I write this, I feel better than yesterday.
Some take-aways from my experience are:
- ย If you’re having chest pain go to the hospital, that’s what they are there for
- Lyme Disease can give some weird and funky symptoms, re-read the above paragraph and put it in your memory banks
- Its good to have members of your health care team who know you and your common presentations because what’s normal for you may not fit the “norms” and vice-versa.
We look forward to seeing you all in the office this week.
Yours in Health,
Dr. B
