Last week’s post focused on God’s uniqueness for you.ย All of the details that make you, you.ย The scents, the tastes, the curves, the divots, and the scars.ย Did you take the time to focus on those details?ย If you did, reflect on them again and wait for the connection to deepen.ย If you didn’t, why not?ย Will you take the time this week to reflect on those details?ย When will you do so?
One thing that makes me unique is my individualism.ย It is unique in that we live in a world which defines us by our corporate labels.ย I often have a difference of opinion from those around me and spend time with.ย Nowadays, clothing labels define political opinions.ย Mine just fit me best or most comfortably.ย Other corporates labels can come from the groups we belong to, such as professional organizations or a church group.
I recently had a Physical Therapist challenge a care plan I provided a patient because it wasn’t what they would have done.ย They wanted me to be more like them.ย They wanted a single minded medicalized treatment.ย They wanted me to be like the other Chiropractors they have worked with.ย Those who think and act just like them.ย I’m not a physical therapist, I’mย a Chiropractor.ย I provide Chiropractic.ย It’s purpose is different, as are our outcomes.ย Our differences should be celebrated, not bemoaned.ย Embrace that uniqueness.
The United States Declaration of Independence and Constitution support this ideal of individualism.ย The words “hold these truths to be self-evident” reflect that individualism.ย Therefore be a free-thinker and respect others for being so.
If you require others to be like you or join some corporate thought process, why?ย What do you need to overcome to allow others to just be themselves?
