I like making my own chicken broth and soup.ย For the longest time, I would put a whole chiecken in water with onions, carrots and celery, add some thyme and a couple of hours later, I’d pull out all of the bones and nastiness and have chicken soup.ย Recently, my wife pointed out how while that works, it’s called unfiltered soup.ย What she showed me is how once I’ve created my broth, to filter it through a sieve or even a cheese cloth.ย This catches both the large items like bones, but also filters the broth for a cleaner taste.
Its the same way when talking with others, like our children.ย We can spill out our meaning unfiltered.ย We may even think we are filtering our words (by not swearing for example) but the message is still a little rough.ย As we hone our message it becomes more filtered and clean.ย The way the listener receives our message tastes better to them AND the message comes across.
We can all do a better job of filtering and refining our message.ย Be it to our children, our spouse, or our boss.ย Not only will our message be heard, they’ll enjoy the taste much better.
