The care process in chiropractic is much like a journey. It takes time and you need to enjoy the process. If your only concern is the destination, youโll miss all the roses along the way.
Just like any journey, the care process begins with excitement. There is some fear of the unknown and how will this go mentality. This often gives way after that first adjustment when relief is had. As with any journey youโll settle into a routine and before you know it youโve reached your first way-point.
This first re-examination is pivotal in the overall care process. The excitement of seeing improvement is either matched or the realization sets in of the work that needs to be done yet. This is the moment where the care recommendations truly set in. Its not an overnight quick fix. So the mindset is to dig in and get to work over the next six weeks or so.
This hard work always pays off with vast improvements in the Tytron nerve test. Just last week, we had a gentleman who has limited improvement on his first re-exam come to a fully clear state on his second. This is often the case. We see those results and realize were about a third of the way there. Itโs also the point where the visit loads begins to lighten.
The next four(ish) months are time and repetition taking their hold on correcting your spine. Again, this is another work phase only itโs less intense than the first. Itโs also a phase where length of time variations can occur between patients leading into the x-ray comparison. We recently had a mid-20โs man require a full year to get to full correction. While a late 40โs female needed about nine months. Yes, weโre going to stop and take some pictures, but trusting the tour guide as to when and where to take them makes the difference between a โniceโ photo op and an awesome picture!
Reaching that destination of correction is a wonderful feeling. Seeing the change and all the effort you put into that achievement always brings a smile to my face. Iโm always proud of those who make it there. The joy in their faces is like a champion reliving all the practices and hard work as they hold a championship trophy.
