One thing I find challenging is remaining supportive when in a time of need.
Every year between March and June, my wife is consumed by the the build for our church Vacation Bible Camp.ย This year was particularly challenging for her because she had little help.ย Normally there is a team of parents who pitch in and help build and paint structures, cut out cardboard characters, and design little do-dads that make it all pop every year.ย This year her right hand was unable to help and another who promised to pitch in more stopped returning emails and phone calls.ย She needed encouragement to keep going and assurance it would all get done.
All the while I’m holding the house together.ย during this time every year, I’m the one tracking schedules, class trips, baseball games, work and car schedules.ย ย The Lord knows I’m not the best juggler and much appreciate those in my life who help keep it all in the air.
The thing that happens during this time and moreso this year than in the past, is we all lose touch with each other.ย We didn’t have a meal all together once during this time.ย She made it to only one of Ian’s baseball games and communication primarily came via text.ย My mental state waned.ย She got exhausted.
This is her time every year.ย Our roles shift.ย I become the supporter and she becomes the focus.ย But how to you lift someone up when you’re mentally, emotionally, and spiritually drained yourself? You just do.ย You stop thinking about all of it and go.
This is why relationship is so important.ย It’s a two way street where we each give to each other.ย We’re all giving of ourselves to one another.ย Same goes in our lives, with our friends and co-workers, etc.ย Always remember those who support you and whom you support.
