Welcome to 2015!! ย The new year is bringing wonderful changes to our office and your lives. ย Each month this year, we’ll be focusing on a different life situationย that can improve with Chiropractic. ย We’ll be talking about these situations in the office and one entry each month of our weekly blog will further help teach how Chiropractic helps improve a myriad of common situations and ailments we encounter throughout life. ย With the birth of the New Year, our first entry will discuss the benefits of Chiropractic care during pregnancy and childbirth. ย As this is a wider ranged topic, it will be broken down into three separate entries during the month. ย Today, we will discuss Chiropractic from the pre-natal aspect, then we will discuss the Chiropractic as part of birth process itself and finally Chiropractic for infants and children.
Pregnancy and childbirth are one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of life. ย The birth a new child and a growing family bring joy and happiness to the new parents. ย For some, this can be a time of unrest, stress, and anxiety. ย Regardless of your take on pregnancy and childbirth, we’re here to help ease this process through the use of Chiropractic care.
While Chiropractic care is not a replacement for pre-natal care with a midwife or OB/GYN, I’ve heard it multiple times, “I don’t know how I did the first one without getting adjusted.” ย Not only do the bones, muscles, and tissues interfere with your nerve system during pregnancy, but now, as your child develops, added nerve stress is placed on the mother from her developing child. ย This nerve stress is called Subluxation.
A subluxation occurs when stress is placed on the nerve system causing an interference or slowing of transmission between the brain and body. ย Think of it like a light switch interfering with the flow of electricity to a light. ย When this occurs, muscles, organs and tissues do not work as well as intended and life gets slow. Regardless of whether this is a first pregnancy or a subsequent one, you need energy, strength, and resiliency to get through your day. ย That’s where we come in.
Women often express how much better they sleep after an adjustment. ย They have more energy and calmness to handle the kids they already have, co-workers and employers who expect them to be at the top of their game despite the increased expectations of their changing body. ย Women who have been adjusted during pregnancy tell us they have more comfort, less anxiety, and a greater more joyful expectation of their expectant arrival. ย Other women in our office has reduced the amount of morning sickness, back pain, and back labor.
The challenges of Chiropractic care during pregnancy are minimal, and it is never too late to receive an adjustment during pregnancy. ย As the baby grows inside of womb, we may need to adjust you while laying on your back, helping you up afterwards. ย Most women find being adjusted while sitting the most comfortable. ย We can also use a tool to adjust you when necessary. ย Your joints and ligaments become looser as the birth date approaches, fewer adjustments become necessary and the focus often transitions to helping you keep a positive outlook on the birth process itself.
Chiropractic is about removing interference and allowing the body to become more aware of itself, so that it will heal and maintain its own health with as little outside intervention as possible. ย This self-awareness allows for proper positioning of the baby as the birth date draws near. ย Most women experience a properly positioned baby during childbirth when they utilize Chiropractic care as part of their care during pregnancy. ย It also allows for reduced medications which can lead to other medical issues and damage to the developing baby.
As with all good health advice, be sure to exercise and eat healthy during your pregnancy while also avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, (whether pushed or prescribed, unless absolutely necessary). ย Next week we’ll talk about the birth process itself and share some of our own experiences with birth.
Have a great week and check back with us next week.
