Now that we are three weeks into January, it is likely you are beginning to shake off the New Year’s Resolution excitement.ย It’s around now (or maybe over the next week and a half) that people come down off the New Year’s high and begin to lose track of their conviction to follow through. The reality of the work required to achieve our goals either motivates us, or blocks us.ย So how do we keep going?
I want to share with you what works best for me.ย I like variety in my life.ย Whether working out, eating, or engaging in social activities, I require variety, or else my mind gets too involved.ย For example, in the gym, I switch between strength and agility work.ย When in the strength phase, I like to mix up the exercises; some upper body, some lower each session.ย At that, I like to change the exercises of the muscle group we are working with.ย With agility work, one day we’ll do ladder work, and the next we’ll do boxing or ropes.
Consistently changing up the routine helps it feel less like a routine, which helps keep the mind from going negative.ย We inherently know that our goals and resolutions require a long-term commitment.ย Mixing up the activities helps us to achieve our desired outcomes.
