An amazing thing has happened to me these past couple of weeks. ย My teenage daughter has been speaking with me.
Facing truth can be tough. ย Reallyย tough. ย I make my kids do it. ย We all have to look in our own mirror also. ย She made me do that. ย ย For a long time she wouldnโt look at me, let alone speak. ย It was because all I did was teach. ย My son took to that style. So I did the same with her. ย But what she wants and needs is for me to listen.
So Iโve had to learn and grow. ย I have this internal timer that goes off when Iโm in a conversation and itโs silent for โtoo long.โ ย Itโs weird because Iโm comfortable sitting in quiet, be it alone orย with people. ย But when engaged in a conversation or when Iโm told my child needs my help/advice, I have a different expectation. ย Silence becomes an issue at that point. ย But Iโve learned to keep quiet longer and she opens up.
Itโs hard but weโre getting through it. ย Sheโsย opening up and weโre reconnecting.
