In teh past week, we’ve had two people ask us about providing nutrition, weight loss, and Physical Therapy (PT) in our office.ย Likewise, they ask, why don’t we provide such services?
The simple answer is that I am a Chiropractor who loves living.ย I hike, ski, run, go for a drive, swim in lakes, rivers, and the ocean.ย I ride bikes with the kids and we go on family vacations.ย We all eat dinner together and clean the house together.ย We attend church together and I and my wife help lead the boys and girls groups there.ย I study martial arts and do fitness videos in my house and yard with my kids, though like many, motivation is a struggle here.ย I mow my own yard and plant and tend my own garden and teach the kids about the same as I go.ย I love baseball and those of you who strike up a baseball conversation with me have seen that.ย I also love entertainment, comedy and music especially.
A gimmick is any “fad” that a business provides to get people in their door, regardless of their level of passion and knowledge of the subject.ย I do my best to stay away from gimmicks.ย If we provide a gimmick as our initial offering, people will smell that we are disingenuous about the subject.
I have a friend who’s wife is a Zumba instructor in Miami, FL.ย While the “fad” aspect of Zumba has certainly passed, her studio is thriving because she is passionate about it.ย Similarly, the Pilates studios that remain are those who truly value, appreciate and are passionate for Pilates, as it should be in my opinion.ย What we don’t see are the gyms, fitness studios, and hospitals providing these classes any longer because the fad has run its course.ย The “gimmick” aspect has subsided.
I can repeat this same explanation with regard to Physical Therapy.ย PTs are great, they help many people every day with various musculo-skeletal problems.ย It’s not my thing.ย I prefer to send people to a PT for their PT.ย Think about it, if you needed PT, who would you rather receive it from, a PT or a Chiropractor?ย There is a reason Physical Therapists provide physical therapy and Chiropractors provide Chiropractic.
We reap what we sow.ย I’m a Chiropractor with a passion for living life.ย Whether going to a ballpark or rolling on the floor with kids, cranking up the tunes or cranking out miles on a bike, I love to be in constant motion.ย This is what Chiropractors have always provided their people throughout the years and I have every intention to keep it that way; pure, powerful, and simple.ย From the inside-out, rather than the outside-in.
In the words of Bob Seager:
“Call me a relic call me what’cha will
Say I’m old fashioned say I’m over the hill
Today’s music ain’t got the same soul
I like that old time rock and roll”
