I was working with my kids on their punches the other day. I was pointing out little things that when they decide to do them will make their punches stronger, faster, and more effective.
I demonstrated to them my punch. I noted the alignment of hand, wrist, elbow and arm. I noted the balance and rooting of my legs and feet as well as the power being generated from them. I showed them how I use my hips and whole body to concentrate my energy into that one punch as well as routinely in successive punches.
It was the punch of a black belt.
Theirs wasn’t. They told me how they aren’t black belts yet and don’t have that skill. I reminded them it is my efforts to help them become a black belt if they want it. And if they want it, this is something small that will help them get their as it matters in much more than just “a punch”… the same way a brick matter more than “just being a brick” when laid into a wall.
Even my instructors find little things that make a big difference over time. Many of them are third, fourth, fifth, even eighth degree black belts who know more than I do and can “coach” me to being better, when I remain humble enough to allow them to teach me.
Change is a decision, not a discussion.
Said in another way, “you can not put new wine into old wineskins.”
So it is with our lives and Chiropractic. Chiropractic is a decision. If you want to change, make a decision. If not, you are more than welcome to continue living the way you are. If you want to get better, make a decision. We are here to help and for those who are humble enough to accept our advise, they’ll get where they want to go because just as my instructors know the road to get me to where they are and I know the road to help my kids get to where I am, we also know the road to help you get where you want to be.
With love and appreciation,
Dr. Brian
