Just yesterday in my Sunday school group the topic was about money. What money does to people, what it is for others and whose it is to begin with were the main topics.Money is also a great topic for Chiropractic and Iโd like to share a couple of stories.
The first is about a colleague who is one of the biggest people lovers I have ever met.He is a truly genuine person with BIG heart to help others.Recently he was dating a girl who is one of the richest women in America. After dating a while something seemed โoffโ about her and he called off the relationship. In turn, she bought his building and began raising his rent until he could no longer afford to keep up.He loved that office.Much of what was in there was custom and hand crafted by artisans. Many of the decorations were of his design and creativity.Moving meant he would no longer serve many of the people he has come to love and losing what he had.But he came to the realization that it wasnโt his to begin with, so he let it go and moved on.
Was it the money that made her do it?Or was there something evil already in her? What was it that allowed him to pick up on her intentions? What is it that gave him the confidence to โlet it go?โ
The second story has to do with a conversation I had with a college regarding lawn mowing.I was expressing how having moved, I was enjoying mowing my own lawn as I did when I was a teen. But at the same time now that I have kids I want to spend more time with them and not mowing the lawn.He agreed and told me about a day when he was mowing his own lawn and realized that he had a landscaper as a patient. An internal conversation ensued about spending the money vs. not spending the money on a professional landscaper. The realization came that he had been blessed with his money by people who chose to see a chiropractor.By paying a landscaper to handle his lawn care he was helping that person. This is their chosen profession he thought. It is how the landscaper feeds his children, pays his bills, and keeps a home.My colleaguesโ thoughts quickly changed to how he was helping that landscaper, instead of how he was โlosingโ money. He was passing on blessings he was graced with.
What do you see in this story? It was very pivotal for me in my understanding not only of money but our intentions and purpose in life. What are some ways that you can pass on blessings you have been given? So many of us are focused on what others can do for me, that we forget itโs about what can we do for them.
One of the greatest gifts we have is helping others by passing on the blessings that we have been given. Some are adept at business and makes lots of money, some are gifted craftsmen, and some have a knack for seeing a yard or garden for what it can be.It is the ability to share those gifts with others that helps bring happiness into our lives and the lives of others.
This week, if you havenโt yet discovered your gift, find it.If you know what your gift is, share it with everyone you possible can.
