It is so common to hear the question โhow are you feelingโ when you see a doctor.ย We always come up with our pre-programmed responses of โgreatโ or โwellโ or โdoc, my back hurts.โย I find it rare that people think of the other meaning of the question.ย I find it even rarer still that doctors ask the question to elicit the other meaning of the question.
ย
Howโฆare you feeling?
ย
It is one thing to feel as in a symptom.ย I feel great, I feel like crap.ย Itโs another to feel.ย I mean this โfeelโ as in the way a driver gets the feel for a car.ย Or an athlete gets a feel for the game.
ย
Mothersโฆhave you ever had that gut โfeelingโ that something just happened.ย That recently happened to one of our own.ย One night she couldnโt sleep and had a โfeelingโ that something had happened to her son.ย Turns out her son went to the casino that night and the driver fell asleep at the wheel and flipped the car.ย All involved were ok.ย But that feeling never left until her son walked in the door and told here what happened.ย
ย
I do it all the time, Iโm sure you do as well whether you know it or not.ย I feel like there is something I have to do.ย When I realize I forgot to pay the bills, I have that โah-haโ moment and get it done.ย Or, โwhere did I leave the car keysโ and that little voice inside says โcheck your pants from last nightโโฆ.Ohhhhh yeah!!!ย I put them in my pocket after I came inside the house.ย You got a feeling of where the keys are.
ย
Have you ever been lost and found your way?ย โI feel like I need to take a right onto this roadโ you may have said to yourself.ย Then a left and a straight and soon you end up in familiar surroundings.ย You had a feel for the road.
ย
I have two places that I feel from, my gut and my heart.ย When it is my gut, I tend to put up my guard and turn on the radar looking for something to happen.ย When the feeling is in my heart, I know something good just happened or is about to.
ย
There is no secret that physically we use our nerves to feel.ย It is our nerve system that elicits the sensation of feel.ย But our nerves are a physical entity, how do they know what is going on around us?ย Donโt cadavers have nerves?ย Do they feel?ย Of course not, they are not ALIVE.ย Rather, the โfeelingโ comes from our own innate and inner being.ย It is our intuition regarding the world around us.ย It is our connection to God where we are a receiving station being told โheads up,โ for better or worse.ย The closer that connection to the Lord, the more often youโll feel out situations.
ย
Just remember, we were designed with the ability to feel.ย It is healthy for us to feel.ย We canโt feel love without knowing what it is to feel pain.ย We canโt feel laughter without feeling sadness.ย They go together, Yin and Yang, pros and cons, Abbot and Costello.ย
ย
Likewise when we pay attention to our bodies we learn to truly feel.
