Hello All,
This week, I’d like to invite you in a little bit. The office will be closed Wednesday 5/10 – Monday 5/15 for a very special event. I’ll be heading to Myrtle Beach, SC to celebrate my parents and their 50th Wedding anniversary. They’ll be renewing their vows in a ceremony on the beach. My brother and I and our families will all be there. As will several members of our extended family.
I feel blessed to be able to celebrate this event. My parents have been models for us over the years. They built a nurturing home with love and laughter. It wasn’t always easy. But we always had each other. We always ate dinner together. They knew my friends by name. We played cards often. Our family game is Setback. Dad was easy going but stern when needed. Mom is still loud. Now because dad’s hearing is all but gone, then because she had two boys to deal with. But they were always fair and took the time to teach my brother and I about life and how to live it. They provided us far more than we deserve.
There were some hard times after my father’s head on collision. It was a long recovery for all of us. But they demonstrated what a bond will do to keep it all together and persevere. Mom needed him to change and he did. She taught us how to love through the times and why its important to aid people when they’re challenged.
They always encouraged us and each other. We always had a healthy understanding of who we are as individuals, a family, and within society. There are always hugs and you have to keep your head on a swivel because you don’t know who has the next joke or punchline. And if you like to play cards, you better be careful because we’re already in your head. 🙂
Today I ask in honor of my parents that you encourage someone today.
