Last week we spoke about what Carlos Beltran did as a player to remain successful.ย Today, I’d like to acknowledge our Little League Head Coach, Jim Miller.ย We as coaches have opportunity to make or break a child’s development.ย We can scold them for the errors that were made and make them cower before us as authoritarians or we can name names when praising a child and point out “team deficiencies” that we’ll work on next practice to correct.
In our two games, our starting pitcher went 1-2-3 in the first, then tired in the second and gave up runs.ย In both games, our boys got down in runs, but never lost their heart.ย They battled back and made the scores respectable and never gave up.ย Coach Miller focused on that warrior mentality and in each game gave the game ball to the starting pitcher for their 1-2-3 effort.ย Coach Miller chooses to focus on the good and build up our youth, their self-confidence, and their skills with positive talk.
